Health Region Aachen

The Region of Aachen is one of the leading locations for the healthcare economy in North Rhine-Westphalia. With several partners in the fields of science and economy and much cross border cooperation with Belgium and the Netherlands, the region has special strengths for a future-orientated development in this area.
Building up on these strengths, the Region of Aachen will develop to a model region of innovative healthcare. A long-term target is to connect regional stakeholder of the healthcare fields and to strategically focus on combined healthcare activities.

The Health Region Aachen puts its focus on five operational fields:

  • Medical technology / life sciences
  • Secondary health market (especially health tourism)
  • Employment and education
  • Patient care and maintenance
  • Cross-border co-operation

Especially in the operational field “medical technology” the strengths of the region become visible in a multiplicity of successful projects and innovative work of companies and research facilities.

The AGIT mbH is an institution for economic development in the region of Aachen and shares the coordination in the five operational fields with the Regionalagentur Aachen and REGIO Aachen e.V.. The first two operational fields are the responsibility of the AGIT mbH together with the AKM (Aachener Kompetenzzentrum Medizintechnik) and the LifeTecAachen-Jülich e.V. who both are leading protagonists in the field of „medical technology/life sciences”.

The responsibility for “employment and education” is with the Regionalagentur Aachen while Regio Aachen e.V. is in charge of the fields “patient care and maintenance” and “cross-border co-operation”. Because the fields “employment and education” as well as “cross-border co-operation” are equally important for all operational fields, they have a superior significance.

In further developing the Health Region Aachen, the previous initiators are further supported by a multitude of other regional players from Aachen. Everyone who wants to join the Health Region Aachen is very welcome to participate.
