Life sciences will have a decisive impact on the 21st century. The fundamental innovative findings on this scientific area, the progress of the associated technologies and their broad application in health-, environmental- and nutrition research will have extensive effects on the provision of health care, the control of environmental risks and our entire social life.
As a main focus of the life sciences, medical technology is one of the outstanding excellences of the technology location Aachen. Already today, the medical technological innovations are said to be „Best Practice“ for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and beyond.

The region Aachen is one of the leading locations of research, development and production on different areas of life sciences. The strong cooperation between scientists, engineers and physicians is a characteristic feature of the technology-led region Aachen.

In the activity area „medical technology / life sciences“ the Aachen Centre of Competence for Medical Technology (AKM) and the LifeTecAachen-Jülich e.V. are the leading protagonists and do the networking for the region and the regional actors on this field. Besides them, the AGIT mbH is also active on this field in multiple ways and supports the collaboration by close coordination.

The AGIT mbH will especially support and extend the accompaniment of funded projects. In the last years this accompaniment has been proven to be a target-oriented and with respect to the results of the Ziel2-competition also a very successful approach.
The extension of this service and to raise the innovation potency of the health industry need further consulting and support capacities. Therefore, the consulting and support of the protagonists of medical technology, biotechnology and life sciences is in the main focus to make the here achieved output reach the health care and benefit the patients.
An additional task is the initiation of new projects, the integration of regional and NRW-wide protagonists and the acquisition of former and new partners. The cooperation in the working group of the health region will also link the different activity areas in NRW.
